Cruise to benefit family with medical problems

Published July 22. 2013 05:05PM

Lori (Strohl) Zerbe was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer a few weeks ago and just received her first treatment.

She returns again in two weeks for a second round.

Lori's husband, Mark was in an ATV accident a few weeks before her diagnosis and he was transported by MedEvac to Lehigh Valley Hospital, and released.

He flew with her to Illinois for her biopsy and first round of chemo and wasn't feeling well and last week, one evening, he developed respiratory distress and was taken by ambulance to a hospital in Illinois where he was diagnosed with two pulmonary emboli and one blood clot in the leg.

This weekend, they returned home to their children who are 11 and 14.

To assist the family and local food pantry, a country cruise will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday, July 26, at the Mahoning Valley Country Club, 323 Country Club Road, Lehighton.

Entertainment will be provided by Darren Frehulfer.

One half of the donations from the event will go to the Zerbe family and one half will go to the food pantry.

Family and friends are also sponsoring a Chinese auction/bake sale/food Sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, at UCC Church in Bowmanstown.
