Local and state officials were hoping they'd dig up new jobs in Walnutport and Lehigh Township as they plunged gold-colored shovels into the earth Monday morning during a groundbreaking for a new Kmart store in Walnutport.

Kmart officials slung the dirt in hopes of profit.

Monday's groundbreaking will bring a vast new 120,000-square-foot Kmart store to replace its 55,000-square-foot store at 550 Main St., Walnutport.
