A 10-year-old Albrightsville boy was struck by an SUV while he was riding a bicycle on Route 940 in Mount Pocono at 1:10 p.m. July 17, according to Pocono Mountain Regional Police.

Police did not identify the boy but said he was treated at the scene by passers-by until an ambulance arrived and transported him to the Scranton Community Medical Center.

Police said he was riding a mountain bike eastbound on the shoulder of Rt. 940 and was in the vicinity of Lowe's department store when he suddenly turned to cross the eastbound lanes and entered the path of an oncoming vehicle operated by Razvan Iliescum, 47, of Sharon, Mass. Police said the driver was unable to avoid striking the bicyclist. The boy, who was not wearing a helmet, was ejected from the bicycle.
