The Tamaqua Community Arts Center is much cooler thanks to the generosity of a local woman, a business, and a local volunteer group.

"Due to the design of the communty center, which once served as a church, regular air conditioners weren't feasible," said center director Leona Rega. "At times, temperatures could reach well over 90 degrees."

After hearing about the problem, Katherine Melnick of Tamaqua and Seasons Change Financial, also of Tamaqua, came together to donate two indoor portable air conditioners (totaling over $800) to the center.

In addition, the Tamaqua Volunteers group donated 10 round floor fans (totaling over $250) to the center. "These air conditioning units and fans will help keep everyone comfortable during future events," said Rega.
