A new National Recreation Trail was designated by the Secretary of the Interior, Cecil D. Andrus, when eight sections of the Lehigh Canal Towpath were dedicated last week as the Lehigh Canal Heritage Trail.

The sections included a span from Parryville to Jim Thorpe and an area in Walnutport. Other sections are located in Easton, Bethlehem Township, Freemansburg, Bethlehem and Northampton.

National Recreation Trails are usually located near urban areas and serve a wide variety of recreationalists.
