Driver facing DUI after crash

A Schuylkill County driver is facing a charge of driving under the influence (DUI) following a one- vehicle crash. State police at Frackville said the accident occurred about 8:15 p.m. on Sunday, June 30, along SR924, between Sheppton and Brandonville, in East Union Township.

Troopers said Desideri Garcia-Vallejo, 42, of Shenandoah was driving a 2002 Saturn sedan southbound when the car went onto the right shoulder. Garcia-Vallejo attempted to swerve back onto the road and lost control.

The car then began to slide sideways, crossed over the opposite lane of travel, and went into a wooded area off the left shoulder. Troopers said there were multiple points of damage from trees and rocks.

Troopers said Garcia-Vallejo showed signs of intoxication and was taken into custody for suspicion of DUI. She was taken to the barracks where she submitted to a breath test which showed her over the legal limit of .08 percent.

She sustained minor injuries in the crash but did not require immediate medical attention. The car had to be towed from the scene.

In addition to the DUI charge, Garcia-Vallejo also faces several motor vehicle code violations.
