Published January 29. 2013 05:02PM

An arrest has been made in connection with a burglary at a Schuylkill County club that occurred late last year.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said Oliver Schaeffer, of Auburn, was charged for the Dec. 20, 2012, entry to the Auburn VFW Post 3975, located at 240 Pine St., Auburn. Troopers said Schaeffer entered the building between midnight and 2:30 p.m. through a unlocked basement door. He then went to a room containing a safe.

He opened the safe and removed $4,000 in cash and fled. He was eventually identified as the person who had entered the post. He has since returned the money to a trustee of the post, troopers said.

On Friday, Jan. 25, Schaeffer turned himself in at the office of District Judge Carol Pankake, and was arraigned on felony counts of burglary, criminal trespass, theft, and receiving stolen property. He was released after posting 10 percent of $10,000 bail.
