Firefighters from two departments responded to a dwelling fire Wednesday afternoon in Palmerton. The blaze was first reported about 12:30 p.m. at 589 Mauch Chunk Road. When Palmerton police and firefighters from Palmerton and Aquashicola arrived on scene they found smoke coming from the one-story wood frame, single-family dwelling. Firemen had the fire soon under control. It was reported the fire may have started when the homeowner was attempting to thaw out frozen pipes. Palmerton fire police maintained traffic control at the scene by shutting down the roadway.
