Two Tamaqua residents were taken to the hospital yesterday following a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Dennison Street and Hometown Hill (SR309) in Hometown.
The incident, which occurred just before 5 p.m., involved a brown Subaru Legacy driven by Ashley Bartoli, and a white Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera occupied by driver John Heemaneth and passenger Shawn Major, both from Tamaqua.
Both Heemaneth and Major were taken to St. Luke's Hospital via ambulance for unknown injuries.
The incident backed up the northbound traffic for about a mile and caused traffic to be snarled at the Five Points intersection. It also resulted in a smaller two-car collision near the bottom of Hometown Hill. No serious injuries were reported from that accident.
Responding to the first collision were firefighters and rescue personnel from Tamaqua, Hometown, Quakake and others. Also on scene were Tamaqua Ambulance, Lehighton Ambulance and Ryan Township Ambulance. Police added that charges are expected to be filed against Bartoli. Rush Township police are still investigating.
