Friday last day to obtain S.H. on-line garbage bill discount
Tomorrow is the deadline for Summit Hill residents who want to capitalize on discounted computer rates for garbage collection with one exception - those who pay the entire fee annually can still get the markdown when they pay their bills.
The borough council has amended its ordinance providing for discount rates to residents who are billed through the internet instead of by mail.
The option for the e billing must be made by the first quarter of each year, according to the ordinance.
Susan Gibiser, borough secretary/treasurer, said bills are expected to be processed beginning Monday. As a result, anyone seeking e billing should send their e mail address to: firstname.lastname@example.org.
The discount amounts to five percent whether paid for the full year or by quarter.
Only billing is done via the internet, she said. Payment still must be made at the borough hall.
The e billing is being done to save the borough money. Gibiser said the money will be saved through postage, printing the bills, and processing them.
Borough residents who pay their garbage bill in full at the beginning of the year can obtain the five percent discount even if they don't have e billing, she said.
So far about 100 residents have signed up for the internet billing, Gibiser reported.
For delinquent customers, the amended ordinance states all bills, whether monthly, quarterly, semi-annually, or annually, shall be considered delinquent if not paid by the due date.
Any bill not paid by the due date will be classified as delinquent and subject to a penalty of $25.
In related news, the council approved exonerating 75 properties from a garbage collection fee. These are the same properties which were exempt during 2012.
The council said it has received some new applications for exemptions, but tabled action until it investigates the requests.
