Annual banquet to be held Sunday

The annual Lehigh Valley Soccer Scholar Athlete banquet will be held on Sunday, Jan. 13 at 5:30 p.m. at the Northampton Community Center in Northampton.

A winner will be selected from both the boys and girls nominations.

The TIMES NEWS area will be represented by 13 athletes. Bios, which were submitted to the committee by each individual, are found below.

The guest speaker will be Chris Branscome, who is the CEO of the Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer Association. Branscome has worked for over 25 years in youth, college and professional levels of soccer in the United States. He played collegiately at Villanova University.



Jim Thorpe

Defender...ranks 15th in a class of 120...GPA - 92.7...Band Treasurer, MVP in one year of Tennis, Sportsmanship Award - two years for Soccer...future plans include entering the Air Force ROTC program at Wilkes University and then joining the Air Force.



Goalie...ranks 20th in a class of 146...GPA - 3.76 out of 4.0...Captain of Soccer team in Junior and Senior years, President of Ski Club, Scholastic Scrimmage, Science Olympiad, Sage Committee, National Honor Society, American Red Cross, four years on the Soccer team...won first place in district and local essay contest and took third place in the state contest...future plans include attending college to major in Forensic Anthropology.


Northern Lehigh goals and nine assists this season, 14 goals and 26 assists for his career...ranks 36th in a class of 151...GPA - 3.63 out of 4.0...volunteers as an accolyte at his church, manager of the Girls' Soccer team, and is an assistant coach of NLYAA Youth Soccer program...future plans include attending Penn State University to major in Civil Engineering.



Outside Midfielder...six goals and three assists this season, eight goals and five assists in his career...ranks 28th in a class of 123...GPA - 3.38 out of 4.0...member of the Basketball team, Tennis team and the Chess club...future plans include attending a four-year college to major in either Biology or Chemistry.


Pleasant Valley

Defender...nine assists this season, four goals and 25 assists in his career...ranks 53rd in a class of 525...GPA - 93 out of 100...four-year varsity soccer starter, two years as captain, three years on MVC first team, MVC track champion in 1600m, second in Districts in same event, holds school record at 4:28, MVC champion in 800m...Civil Air Patrol, SADD, volunteer at The Growing Place, Warrior Dash, Ski for the Cure, American Legion and Relay for Life...plans to enter the Service Academy or the ROTC Program and major in Aeronautical Engineering.



Defender...four goals this season, six in his career...ranks first in a class of 170...GPA - 100.98 out of 100...captain of the Soccer team for two years, Science Club President, Student Council, Track and Field, Cross Country, Concert Band, Jazz Band, Debate, volunteer tutor, Foreign Language Club, National Honor Society, Scholastic Scrimmage Team, Chorus, Mens' Accapella Club...plans to attend Princeton University to major in Chemical Engineering.




Center midfielder ... six goals and 11 assists this season ... ranks 50 in a class of 145 ... GPA - 89.55 out of 100 ... Captain of Soccer team during Junior and Senior years ... Played soccer for the Carbon United for five years ... future plans include attending a four year college to major in Physical Therapy.



Midfielder ... four goals and six assists this season and 19 goals and 13 assists for her career ... ranks 25 in a class of 170 ... GPA - 95.58 out of 100 ... President of the KeyClub, member of the National Honor Society, Volunteer for Lehigh Valley Hospital, Food Bank, Youth Group, Disaster Relief, Special Olympics and M.S., 2012 Homecoming Queen, a Youth Field Hockey Volunteer Coach ... All-League Honorable Mention for Basketball in ninth grade, Field Hockey in 10th grade, All-League 2nd Team in Basketball in 10th grade and Field Hockey in 11th grade, All-League First Team in Basketball in 11th grade and Soccer in 11th and 12th grade ... Plans to attend Kutztown University to Major in Elementary Education.


Northern Lehigh

Defender ... five goals and three assists for her career ... ranks 55 in a class of 151 ... GPA - 3.34 out of 4.0 ... Played one year of Club soccer and nine years of Youth soccer ... Plans include to work in a resort in the field of Culnary Arts.


Pleasant Valley

Defender ... one goal this season and three for her career ... ranks 142 in a class of 508 ... GPA - 88.5 out of 100 ... Treasurer for Students Against Drunk Driving (SADD) ... Member of KeyClub and FBLA ... Played 11 years with West End Soccer and two years with FC Pocono ... Plans include to attend a four years college to Major in Nursing.



Forward ... ranks 12 in a class of 67 ... Varsity letter winner in soccer, basketball and softball for three years ... Chosen top freshman in "Hoops" Elite Shootout in 2009 ... Member of the Band, Soccer, Basketball, Softball, Relay for Life, Prom Committee, Junior Leadership, National Honor Society, Memory Book Club ...
