LAHS student selected to be part of national choir

Schyler Cordova, a junior at Lehighton Area High School, has been selected to perform with a national high school choir in Dallas, Texas.
The selection was announced by David Perkins, music director at LAHS.
Perkins said every other year, the American Choral Directors Association sponsors the National Choirs.
He said Cordova was selected to this year's ensemble.
She was chosen from almost 3,800 students across the country to form one of the National Honor Choirs to perform in Dallas, Texas March 13-16.
Cordova will be a member of the 2013 ACDA High School Honor Choir and will work with Edith A. Copley, a Regents' professor and director of choral studies at Northern Arizona University, where she conducts Shrine of the Ages Choir and teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in conducting and choral literature.
Copley is in high demand as a conductor/clinician in the United States and has conducted honor choirs in Germany, the Netherlands, Tasmania, Japan, Luxembourg, Australia, China, and Turkey.
Cordova will perform for the National ACDA Conference and have the opportunity to work with other musically gifted students from around our country.
This marks the second Lehighton student to be selected to a National Choir. Michael Perkins was selected in 2011 and performed in Chicago, Illinois.
Lehighton chorus is under the direction of Perkins and he has had two ACDA National Choir students, three ACDA All-Eastern Chorus members, one MENC All-Eastern Choir member, four PMEA All-State members, 12 PMEA All-State Regional Chorus members, and 40 PMEA District Chorus members since 1993.
