A New York driver is facing a charge of driving under the influence (DUI) following an incident that occurred about 2:19 a.m. on Feb. 19 along old route 940, in Pocono Pines.

Pocono Mountain Regional police said they observed a vehicle traveling over the center line along SR940. The driver then turned onto old route 940 and began to accelerate at a high rate of speed going into the opposite lane.

A traffic stop was made and the driver identified as Michael Obay, 36, of Staten Island. He was found to be under the influence and failed field sobriety tests. He was then transported to the county DUI center for a blood test.

The DUI charge is pending the test results, police said.
