Adult day care

The Tamaqua Area Adult Day Care Center has a number of activities planned for the month of March, including a visit from the St. Jerome's kindergarten class on March 27.

Other special days next month include: March 1, foot doctor visit; March 4, cooking class; March 6, bulletin board; March 7, bingo; March 13, craft day; March 15, sing a long with Audrey Christ; March 19, baking day; March 20, Salvation Army service; March 21, monthly birthday party; March 22, movie day; March 25, Easter craft day; March 28, dye Easter eggs.

In addition to weekly sing-alongs and social games, hair styling and manicure services are available. Both require advance notice.

Daily activities include exercise, reality orientation, motivational and reminiscent therapy, as well as breakfast, lunch and a snack.

Art show

The Tamaqua Community Arts Center will host an art show featuring the work of Joseph Evanousky of Barnesville. A meet and greet reception will be held from 6-9 p.m. this Friday, March 1.

There is no admission fee and the public is welcome to attend.

Using charcoal as his medium, the artist's work depicts the daily struggle and will to survive of the coal miner. His early works focused on his love of football.

The arts center is located at 125 Pine St., Tamaqua.

Bethany EC

The Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 8 a.m. traditional and 10:30 a.m. contemporary worship services this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church.

Nursery and primary church are offered during the later service. Sunday school classes will meet at 9:30 a.m.

Also on Sunday, the monthly service at the Tamaqua ABC High Rise will be held at 6 p.m., to save a life growth group will meet at 6:30 p.m. and the couples sacred marriage growth group will meet at 7 p.m.

Activities for next week will include: Monday, drama growth group meets at 7 p.m.; Tuesday, Good News Club meets at 3:45 p.m. at the South Ward Playground, Homes of Honor parents growth group meets at 7 p.m.; Wednesday, community Lenten service at noon at the Tamaqua Salvation Army, Tamaqua Youth Ministry will meet at 6:30 p.m., GriefShare meets at 7 p.m.; Thursday, coffee shop theology growth group meets at 7 a.m., encountering Jesus growth group meets at 1 p.m., men's fraternity meets at 6:30 p.m.; Saturday, musician practice at 8:30 a.m., followed by praise practice at 9:30 a.m.

The Northeast District Youth Retreat will be held from Friday through Sunday.

SS. Peter and Paul

First Friday will be observed this week in SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church.

First Friday confessions will be heard at 7:30 a.m., followed by Mass and devotions at 8 a.m. Communion calls will begin at 9 a.m. on Friday, while calls to the Tamaqua Hi Rise, Majestic House, Coaldale and Hometown will be made on Thursday.

March 2 will be a Fatima Saturday. Confessions will be heard at 7:30 a.m., followed by a Recitation of the rosary and Devotions before the 8 a.m. Mass.

Members of the parish Holy Rosary Society will attend the 8 a.m. Mass on March 3 and receive Holy Communion as a group.

A rosary will be said before the Mass.

Stations of the Cross are held Wednesdays at 7 p.m., with Holy Hour, recitation of the rosary and confessions beginning at 6 p.m. A Holy Hour and confessions are also held Saturdays from 4-5 p.m.

The choir rehearses Wednesdays after Stations of the Cross.
