A Schuylkill County man was jailed for assault stemming from a domestic incident.

State police at Frackville identified the suspect as Paul Chicora, 30, of 6 Long Row, Gilberton. He has been charged with simple assault and harassment.

According to troopers the incident began around 4:15 a.m. when Chicora began to verbally abuse a 21-year-old female at his residence. It then turned physical when he pushed her to the ground, grabbed her face and pulled her hair while on top of her. He also burned her cheek with a lit cigarette.

At one point during the altercation Chicora threw her on a bed and choked her. Chicora left the residence for several hours and then returned and continued fighting with the victim, troopers said. He then pushed her into a wall inside the residence which left an impression of her body in the drywall. She then called 9-1-1. She sustained several bruises on her face and neck and also a burn to her face.

Chicora was arraigned by on-call District Judge Anthony Kilker, of Shenandoah. Bail was set at $25,000 10 percent which Chicora could not post. He was then committed to the county prison in Pottsville.
