Weissport man jailed after stabbing incident

A Weissport man has been arrested and placed in the Carbon County Correctional Facility following a stabbing incident which occurred in Weissport last evening.

Eric Scott Montanari Sr. is being held in the prison in lieu of $400,000 straight bail.He was arraigned this morning before District Judge Edward M. Lewis of Jim Thorpe.He is being charged in the stabbing of Joseph Preston Muse, 23, also of Weissport, following an altercation between the two. State police at Lehighton barracks said Muse was stabbed multiple times and was transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest. His condition was not known this morning.The incident happened at about 7:50 p.m. at the Fort Allen Apartments, 401 Bridge St., Weissport.Montanari has been charged with aggravated assault, three counts of endangering the welfare of children (parent/guardian/other commits offense), simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, and harassment. Aggravated assault is a felony. Harassment is a summary. All the other charges are misdemeanors.Trooper Justin S. Magluilo is the arresting officer. He was assisted at the scene by police officers from Lehighton, Franklin Township and Mahoning Township.Trooper Magluilo said in the affidavit that Muse related to him that Montanari engaged him in a physical altercation. This "resulted in the victim being stabbed with a knife multiple times in the area of his right arm and right side area of his chest."Police said the physical altercation occurred within close proximity to three minor children ages 7, 12 and 15.
