Update given in Monroe shooting

Published February 25. 2013 05:03PM

State police at Fern Ridge released an update on a shooting incident in Monroe County.

Troopers reported on Friday that Bernadette O'Reilly, 50, of 251 Whisperwood Rd., Saylorsburg, Chestnuthill Township, was found in her home suffering from a gunshot wound to the abodmen.

Troopers responded to the home about 1:20 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 21. She was transported to St. Luke's Hospital, Fountain Hill, by West End ambulance.

Troopers said an investigation determined that O'Reilly was shot as she answered her front door by an unknown person posing as a delivery person. No arrests have been made to date.

Troopers said reports indicate the suspect may be a white female, in her 40s, with blondish or greyish colored hair. A report also indicates that a dark colored sedan was in the area at the time of the incident.

There is no indication, troopers said, that a suspect is targeting random people, but residents are reminded to be vigilant at their homes and report anything suspicious to 9-1-1.

Anyone with information concerning this incident is asked to call troopers at (570) 646-2271.
