Victim killed in I81 crash is identified
The victim of a fatal crash along Interstate 81 in Delano Township, Schuylkill County, that occurred Sunday evening, has been identified.
Nathaniel Keller, 20, of Philadelphia, died at the scene of the crash that occurred along the northbound lanes of the interstate. State police at Frackville said the crash occurred about 8:53 p.m.
Troopers said another person in a 1999 Ford Expedition that crashed was taken to St. Luke's Hospital, Fountain Hill, by Pennstar helicopter with serious injuries. His name has not been released by troopers.
Troopers also said it has not been determined who was driving the vehicle when it crashed.
According to troopers the Ford was northbound in the left lane when, for unknown reasons, it traveled northwest, off the road. It impacted with an embankment in the median. It then overturned multiple times.
Both male occupants were ejected from the vehicle. Keller came to rest in the left lane where he was struck by multiple vehicles, troopers said. The second occupant came to rest on the rock embankment.
Keller was pronounced dead at the scene. Neither occupant used a seat belt, troopers added. The road was closed for about four hours.
Assisting troopers were volunteers from the Delano, Ryan Township, Quakake, and McAdoo fire companies and ambulance from Ryan Township.
