Published February 14. 2013 05:02PM

Palmerton Area School District will soon know the price tag to replace several boilers/water heaters.

Bids are due to the district by 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 12, for the replacement of various hot water heaters and boilers.

A prebid meeting will be held on Thursday, Feb. 21, at 3 p.m. starting at S.S. Palmer Elementary, 298 Lafayette Avenue.

Superintendent Carol Boyce said three boilers and one water heater at Palmer; two boilers and one water heater at the junior high school, and one water heater at the high school, are scheduled for replacement.

The boilers/heater at Palmer are 48 years old, the junior high, 28 years old, and the high school water heater, 49 years old, Boyce said.

In October, the board approved Barry Isett & Associates to put the bid out for the boilers.

Boyce said the district will pay for the boilers/water heaters from the $5 million bond the district took out in 2010, at which time it also refinanced several previous bonds.
