Pocono Polar Bear Plunge slated Feb. 17

Published February 11. 2013 05:04PM

The 13th annual Pocono Polar Bear Plunge will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 17, at Henning's Pond, Albrightsville. Interested individuals must preregister at Robert Christian's Restaurant, Route 940, Pocono Lake or by calling (570) 646-6600 by Feb. 12.

The festive event is very exciting, yet may be dangerous to one's health. Participants must sign a liability waiver for swimmers only and pay a fee to defray expenses. Each registered participant will receive a commemorative gift and hot food and beverages. Snacks and drinks will also be available for purchase by spectators. Excess revenues will be donated to Make a Wish Foundation for Northeastern Pa. as a small token of appreciation for their excellent work making wishes come true for children between the ages of 2 and 18 who are suffering critical or life threatening diseases.

All spectators are encouraged to donate to the foundation. The goal is to raise at least $5,000 for this charity.

Following the chilling plunge, enthusiasts will gather at Robert Christians for snacks, and to see who will be crowned Ms. and Mr. Pocono Polar Bear.

For additional information, call Bob Kasper at (570) 646-6600 or toll free at 1 (888) 727-2985 or Robert Christian Restaurant at (570) 646-0433.

No wetsuits are allowed.
