Weather is on the mind of many of us these days, so it seems only fitting to launch the new Young Voices feature with a poem that speaks a bit about weather.

This poem was written by Jayne Kuehner, 16, of Kunkletown. Jayne is a sophomore at Pleasant Valley High School. Jayne enjoys writing, especially poetry. She likes to write about things that teenagers can relate to, such as siblings, love, break-ups, school, home life, fighting and bullying.

Poems, essays, short stories and works of non-fiction will be considered for use in our Lifestyle section on a random basis, as part of a new feature called "Young Voices." There will be no compensation for any work submitted, and all items are subject to editing.

Short stories should be no longer than two typed pages, single spaced. Essays or works of non-fiction should be no longer than one and one-half pages, single spaced; and poems should be no longer than one page, single spaced.

"Life Is Like The Weather"

By Jayne Kuehner

Life is like the weather.

You are happy when it's sunny,

But sad when it rains.

But, both of them make a rainbow,

To cure the pains.

Life is like the weather.

You are angry when it thunders,

But in a hurry like the wind.

But, both of them form a hurricane,

to blow away pain within.

Life is like the weather.

You are cold when it snows,

But the first spring flower,

Brings the excitement to,

A happy sunny summer.

And just like the weather,

Life brings more ups and downs.

Just like the weather,

the sun will shine fixing frowns.
