Named to dean's list at Penn State Univ.
Shane Haydt, a senior, majoring in mechanical engineering at Penn State University, has been named to the dean's list for the fall semester.
He is a student in the Schreyer Honors College of Penn State.
He was the lead clarinetist for the Blue Band, taking the Blue Band onto the field to set up pre-game performances for every home football game. He is an active member of Blue Band's THON organization as the treasurer and is also the treasurer for the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
Haydt is an engineering ambassador. As part of that group's mission he visits middle and high schools to explain that engineering is more than math and science.
As a freshman he co-founded the Theme Park Engineering Group at Penn State.
Following graduation he intends to attend graduate school to get his Ph.D. in mechanical engineering; and his dream is to one day teach at Penn State.
Haydt is a son of Drue and Jan Haydt and the grandson of Raymond Haydt and the late Jean Haydt and Mae Markley, all of Lehighton.
