Ashland man jailed on burglary charge
Duane Harold Maurer, 49, of Fountain Springs, Ashland, was committed to the Schuylkill County Prison, Pottsville, following his arraignment over the weekend on charges related to a burglary in Blythe Township.
State police at the Frackville barracks said he was arraigned before Magisterial District Justice James Reiley of Pottsville on charges of criminal conspiracy to commit burglary, conspiracy to commit theft by unlawful taking or disposition and conspiracy to commit unauthorized use of an automobile or other vehicles. Bail was set at $20,000.
Police said Maurer was apprehended by pottsville City police after the Schuylkill County Communications Center broadcast details of a burglary that was discovered on new Philadelphia Road in Blythe Township. Police said the burglary victim is the estate of David Osceles. During the crime, taken were an automobile, automotive parts and household electronics.
Police said the stolen vehicle was discovered a short distance from the scene along the New Philadelphia Road, at which time observers also saw another vehicle leaving the scene. After the broadcast, that vehicle was apprehended in Pottsville and police said some of the automotive parts and electronics were discovered in the car in which Maurer was driving.
Police said the investigation is continuing as at least one other conspirator is presently being sought.
