Four vehicles were damaged in a chain-reaction crash that happened at 2:03 p.m. Dec. 27 on Route 61, just north of the entrance to the Cressona Mall in North Manheim Township.

State police at the Schuylkill Haven barracks said the driver of one of the vehicles, Daniel Q. Guers, 88, of Pottsville, sustained minor injuries and was transported to the Schuylkill Medical Center South, Pottsville, for treatment.

Police said he was driving a 2005 Cadillac Deville south on Route 61 when the three other vehicles were stopped in the left lane of the highway due to traffic being backed up. Police said the Deville struck the rear of a 2013 Chevrolet Express operated by Soli F. Tavaria, 66, of Schuylkill Haven, which forced that vehicle into a third vehicle and the third vehicle into the fourth one.

The third vehicle was a 2004 Mazda 6 operated by Rachel L. Bendetti, 25, of Orwigsburg, while the fourth vehicle was a 2011 Ford Explorer operated by Michael C. Smith, 28, of Pottsville.

Police said the Deville and Express sustained significant damages and were towed from the scene. The other two vehicles sustained minor damages and were driven from the scene.

Police said Guers will be cited for failure to drive at a safe speed.
