Schuylkill Commissioners hire firm to correct heating issue

Action was taken to alleviate a heating problem in the main lobby of the county prison by the Schuylkill County Commissioners.

One bid was received and it came from Antz Energy Systems, of Shenandoah, in the amount of $12,164 to install a carrier HUCA unit in the lobby.

A rate agreement was reached with the Pottsville Parking Authority for employee parking at the Human Service Complex located on North Centre Street, across the street from Pottsville City Hall. The one year agreement which expires December 31, 2014 is for 90 spaces in the Capitol Parking Lot on Centre Street at $28.50 per space per month and 10 permit parking spaces along Laurel Boulevard in front of the courthouse building at a rate of $18.50 per space per month. The total cost of the contract is $33,000.

Reappointments were made on two advisory boards. Reappointed to the Mental Health and Development Services Advisory Board for three years ending December 31, 2016 was Bette Brennan Minersville and Prison Warden Eugene Berdanier. Reappointed to the Schuylkill County Transportation Authority for three years ending December 31, 2016 were James D. Thomas and Herman Fenstermacher, both of Pottsville.

A number of purchase service agreements were approved for the Children and Youth Services Agency. They are Youth Services Agency of Pennsylvania, Jim Thorpe, no show rate at $22 per day; Community Solutions Inc., Windsor, Conneticut, supplemental rate at $22 per day; DNA Diagnostic Center, Fairfield, Ohio, for paternity and maternity tests at a a per unit rae of $50, prenatal test at $375, and Mitochondrial DNA test at $400.

Several actions were taken on behalf of County Engineer Lisa MahallThe Larson Design Group, Williamsport, was approved as the construction inspector for the county bridge which which carries Newswanger Road over Lower Little Swatara Creek in Washingtown Township.

An agreement with Alfred Benesch and Company for the engineering design for repairs to county bridge which carries Black Creek Road over Mahanoy Creek in Barry Township was extended.

Four county employees have beeen designated to approve contracts for county business for 2014. They are Paul Buber, fiscal officer; Chris Kerns, assistant fiscal officer; Gary Bender, director of CDBG program and Mark Scarbinsky, county administrator.

Action taken on personal matters was as follows:

Attorney Christine Holman, Barnesville, resigned as assistant county solicitor as she will be sworn in next Tuesday as the new district attorney.

Andrea Geist, Hegins Township, was hired as an agricultural program coordinator at $29,944 per year.

Rest Haven Home - Maryjane Loeper, Pottsville, transfered from assistant director of nursing to registered nurse and head nurse at $20.69 per hour and Karen Murray, Pottsville and Rose Marie Smallwood, Girardville, hired as part time licensed practical nurses at $15.99 per hour. Dawn Bechtel, Frackville, resigned as a part time licensed practical nurse and Tori Davenport, Saint Clair, resigned as a part time nurse's aide.

Court Administration Office announced the appointment of Cindy Wixted, Pottsville, as a court attendant at $9.3827 per hour.

The District Attorney's Office announced the resignation of Attorney Robert Reedy, Schuylkill Haven, as an assistant district attorney.

Commissioner Frank Staudenmeir announced there will be no meeting next Wednesday in observance of New Year's Day. The next meeting will be a reorganization meeting to be held Monday, January 6 at 10 a.m. in the commissioners' board room and the work session will be held on Wednesday, January 8 at 10 a.m. in the Hoffman Room which adjoins the commissioners' board room.

The Prison Board will hold its reorganization meeting on Wednesday, January 8, at 11 a.m. in the commissioners' board room and the regular monthly meeting will follow.
