Three injured in Schuylkill crash
Three people were injured in a one-vehicle crash at 8:10 a.m. Dec. 19 on Route 61, just south of the Schuylkill Mall in Blythe Township.
State police at the Frackville barracks said Julia Schneider, 20, of Mahanoy Plane, who was a rear-seat passenger in the vehicle, was ejected from the vehicle during the crash and was flown to Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, for evaluation of what police called "moderate" injuries.
Also injured was the driver of the vehicle, William Wetzel, 61, of Mahanoy City, and a rear-seat infant. Police said they were transported to the Schuylkill Medical Center-South, Pottsville, for evaluation.
Police said the accident happened when Wetzel was driving a 2001 Buick LeSabre southbound on Route 61 and lost control of it while negotiating a curve in the roadway. The vehicle struck a utility pole on the eastern berm and came to rest in the left lane of travel.
Police said the vehicle was towed from the scene.
Wetzel will be cited for causing the accident and also for driving while his license is suspended, police said.
Police were assisted at the scene by the Goodwill and Altamont fire companies and the Frackville and Shenandoah ambulances.
