Vehicles crash on snow-covered road

Published December 18. 2013 11:16AM

Two vehicles crashed on a snow-covered road in Ryan Township on Tuesday at 2:56 p.m. according to state police at the Frackville barracks.

Police said the accident happened on State Street when a 2008 Chevrolet Impala operated by Stephanie L. Grazel, 27, of Barnesville, was westbound and traveling uphill while negotiating a tight right curve. Police said she lost control of the vehicle, which slid over the center line partly into the oncoming lane, striking the left side of a 2000 Chevrolet utility van driven by David R. Zerby Jr., 24, of Pottsville.

After impact, the van continued about 45 feet east, rotated about 35 degrees counter-clockwise and crossed the left lane, coming to rest straddling the westbound lane and shoulder.

Police said Zerby exited the vehicle, went into a verbal tirade and fled the scene on foot, returning to the scene a short time later.

Police said a witness who had seen the crash occur from her window, assisted Grazel out of her vehicle.

Both vehicles required towing from the scene.

Police said both drivers will be cited as a result of the crash.

The Ryan Township Fire Company/Fire Police responded.
