Tobyhanna man facing charges

Published December 16. 2013 05:00PM

James Heffernan, 25, of Tobyhanna, is facing charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and possession of drug paraphernalia as a result of an incident at 10:14 p.m. Dec. 10 at the entrance to Tunkhannock Trails, Long Pond.

Pocono Mountain Regional Police said they were summoned there to investigate a report of a car off the road and upon arrival found a vehicle in a ditch and unoccupied. While police were investigating, Heffernan returned to the scene, at which time police said they observed signs of intoxication. Police said he submitted to and failed a series of field sobriety tests and was taken to the Swiftwater barracks of the Pennsylvania State Police for a breath test to determine his blood-alcohol level. The test showed a result of .207.

Police said the possession of drug paraphernalia charge is a result of police having found a marijuana pipe on the floor of the vehicle.
