Police probing arson at Carbon Plaza Mall

Published December 16. 2013 05:00PM

Mahoning Township Police said a fire was deliberately set inside the Carbon Plaza Mall off Route 443 early Sunday morning.

Audie Mertz, officer in charge of the Mahoning Township Police Department, said police officers were dispatched to the mall at 3:44 a.m. on Sunday for a fire alarm.

Mertz said when officers arrived, they found there had been a fire inside the Beverly Hill Nail Salon.

The fire was put out by the mall's fire sprinkler system, Mertz reported.

He said several surrounding businesses sustained water damages.

No injuries were reported.

Mertz asked that anyone with information to contact the police department at 570-386-2241.

The largest stores in the mall, Giant Supermarket, Rite Aid Pharmacy, and Big Lots, were not affected by the incident.

Most of the stores that were impacted were reopened for business Sunday.
