Published August 31. 2013 09:00AM

St. Luke's University Health Network is sponsoring a series of runs/walks this fall in an effort to "build a healthier community - one mile at a time."

The series of runs/walks and fitness events will be held in September and October. Each event will have a specific purpose, from honoring trauma patients to raising funds for men's cancer and local children's programs to increasing fitness and improving health in the community.

The mileage of the runs/walks will count toward the "Get Your Tail on the Trail Program" and the 1645 Mile Challenge (www.tailon the trail.org).

St. Luke's will honor trauma patients, heroes and caregivers with its Eighth Annual Run With the Heroes 5K Run/Walk on Sept. 14. The event will be held at 100 Gracedale Ave., Nazareth. Check in will begin at 7:30 a.m., with the run/walk set to begin at 8:30 a.m. It will be held rain or shine. To register, go to www.sluhn.org/traumaheroes.

St. Luke's Blue Ribbon 5K Race and Family Fun Walk will be held Sept. 29 and will follow the trail in the garden at St. Luke's Hospital - Anderson Campus, 1872 Riverside Circle in Easton. Sign in begins at 7:30 a.m. with the race set for 8:30 a.m.

The Family Fun Walk will begin at the completion of the race. The registration fee will provide for awards for the top three male and female runners and a tee shirt. Register at www.sluhn/blueribbon5k. Deadline to register is Sept. 4.

The St. Luke's Miners Campus Cares For Kids 5K and Kids Fun Run/Walk is scheduled to be held Oct. 5, rain or shine. Any proceeds will benefit St. Luke's Miners Community Health Programs, which includes the HealthStar vans, literacy programs, smoking cessation programs and more.

The event will begin at 9 a.m. at the Lansford Pool and will loop around the hospital in Coaldale. For more information, or to register, visit www.sluhn. org/caresforkids.

St. Luke's Monster Mash and 5K Dash will be held at 9 a.m., Oct. 5, at the St. Luke's Upper Perkiomen Outpatient Center, 2793 Geryville Pike in Pennsburg. Register at www. sluhn.org/harvestfest.
