West End historical societies

The historical societies in the West End are working together to celebrate the 250th anniversary of Chestnut Hill Township. It will be held on Saturday, Sept. 7 (rain date Sunday, Sept. 8) at the West End Fairgrounds, on Fairgrounds Rd. in Gilbert. A parade will begin at 10 a.m. There will be music, food, displays, games and more immediately following.

The 250th Anniversary Committee encourage social, business and religious organizations, plus citizens interested in preserving and celebrating the joint history to help make it a success.Individuals with historic documents and photos are encouraged to share their treasures.One can contact Norman Burger for further information at (610) 681-7561.If you have a love of local history and would like to play a part in its preservation, consider joining one of the West End's historical societies.The Chestnuthill Township Historical Society meets the third Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m. in the Chestnuthill Municipal Building, 270 Rt. 715 in Brodheadsville.Polk Township Historical Society meets the first Monday of the month at 7 p.m. at the Polk Township municipal building, 165 Polk Township Rd., Kresgeville, starting Oct. 7.Eldred Township Historical Society meets the third Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m. at the Eldred Township municipal building, 490 Kunkletown Rd., Kunkletown.The Women of Ross meets the third Thursday at various members homes or restaurants.
