Friends, family hosting event in Bowmanstown to help Lehighton woman with cancer
Friends, co-workers and family of Lori (Strohl) Zerbe, Lehighton, will be hosting a fundraiser from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, at Emmanuel UCC Church. 819, Hamilton St., Bowmanstown.
There will be homemade food, baked goods, a 50/50 raffle, 31 calendars, and a Chinese auction featuring gift certificates and theme baskets. Food will be available to eat in or take out.
Funds raised will be used exclusively to assist the Zerbe family with everyday expenses and to defray travel costs for frequent commutes to Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) in Illinois, where Lori's stay varies from 3-10 days
Lori was recently diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. She is employed as an occupational therapist at Blue Mountain Health System.
A few weeks before her diagnosis, Lori's husband Mark, who is self-employed was in an ATV accident with an injury to his arm. While accompanying her to CTCA in July, Mark developed blood clots in his leg and lungs and required hospitalization.
Lori and Mark are the parents of two school-aged children 11 and 14, who attend Lehighton Area School District.
While at CTCA, Lori must reside at a hotel near the hospital and there is a cost associated with each day's stay. With two treatments down, Lori has many more to go. She is having a semi-permanent catheter inserted in her chest area to allow her to receive chemotherapy.
Lori appreciates prayers said on her behalf. Her faith is strong. Please add her to your prayer chain.
Lori also appreciates the support she has been receiving from everyone, and says, "You don't realize how many people out there care about you until something like this happens. They have been there for me and my family."
Those who would like to become involved or donate to the Zerbe family, may call Alicia at (570) 657-7128 or Audrey at (570) 386-4788.
