One person was killed in a collision of a car and motorcycle on Sunday night in which both drivers are under investigation for drunk driving.

State police at Lehighton said the accident occurred about 10:33 p.m. along SR903, near the Jim Thorpe borough line in Penn Forest Township.

Troopers identified the victim as Debra L. VanPattern, of 8 Cedar Ave., Jim Thorpe. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

She was a passenger on a 1986 Kawasaki Eliminator bike driven by Paul G. Herman, of the same address.

The operator of the 2009 Nissan Altima involved was Steven McKenzie, of 121 West Broadway, Jim Thorpe.

Troopers gave few details of the crash. They said both vehicles were traveling northbound when the crash occurred.

Troopers did not indicate if McKenzie or Herman were injured. Troopers said both operators were suspected of driving under the influence (DUI).

The Penn Forest Township Fire Co. No. 1 responded, as did Lehighton Ambulance.

Route 903 in the area of Kattner's Mountain was closed for about five hours due to the crash.

The investigation into the crash is continuing, troopers noted.
