Palmerton schools to open August 26

The Palmerton Area School District announced that schools will open for the 2013-14 school year on Monday, Aug. 26.

Elementary students (K-6) begin at 8:30 a.m. and dismiss at 3 p.m. Morning kindergarten dismiss at 11:15 a.m. and afternoon sessions begin at 12:15 p.m. Junior high school (7-8) and high school (9-12), begin at 7:30 a.m. and dismiss at 2:25 p.m.

On opening day junior high students should report to the junior high gymnasium; high school students should report directly to their assigned areas upon entering the building at 7:30 a.m. to receive their schedules. Carbon County Technical Institute students should board their buses by 7:15 a.m. at the high school for transportation to CCTI.

School bus schedules will be posted at all district school entrances, on the school district website, and will appear in the TIMES NEWS. Any questions regarding bus schedules should be directed to Leon George II School Buses Inc., at 610-826-7684.

Lunch prices have been set at $2 for students in grades one to six; and $2.10 for students grades seven to 12. Milk is available for 55-cents. Reduced lunch prices for all qualifying students are 40-cents.

Junior and senior high school breakfast is available for $1.15 and elementary breakfast is available for $1.05. Reduced breakfast prices are 30-cents for qualifying students. Free and reduced lunch applications will be available in the cafeteria on Aug. 27. The menu is available on the school district website.
