School packets

Hess Windows and Doors, 56 Mauch Chunk St., will be providing area students with a free packet of school supplies, beginning Aug. 13.

Students in kindergarten through eighth grade are eligible to receive a free packet, which will include pencils, notebooks, crayons, tissues, hand sanitizer and glue sticks, as well as several other items. Students must be accompanied by an adult and there is a limit of one packet per child.

Just stop by Hess Windows, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday through Friday, while supplies last.

Cross country teams

The Tamaqua Cross Country Boosters are calling all team alumni to participate in a picnic and 5K Fun Run on Aug. 18. The event will be held at the Tuscarora State Park. For more information, email or visit the Tamaqua Cross Country Alumni page on Facebook.

The teams are holding morning and evening practices, Monday through Friday, in preparation for the upcoming season. The morning practices are held at 9 a.m. for runners in grades 9-12. The evening practice, at 6 p.m., are for students in grades 7-12.

The teams meet at the front steps of the Tamaqua Area Senior High School.

St. John UCC

Sunday worship services are held at 9:30 a.m. in St. John United Church of Christ.

The spiritual council will meet at 7:30 pm. on Monday.

Zion Lutheran

Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church is offering a Saturday worship service. The contemporary style service will be held at 5:30 p.m. in the church social hall.

Sunday worship services are held at 9:30 a.m.
