Garden walk

The Schuylkill Penn State Master Gardeners will sponsor a "Walk in the Garden" program at the Master Gardener Trial and Demonstration Garden on Route 61 in Schuylkill Haven. The event will be held from 10 a.m. until noon on Sept. 7.

The walk will include an introduction to the 16 varieties of coral bells (Heuchera) that have been planted, as well as a stroll around the newly-constructed rain garden.

Cameras are permitted and gardening questions will be answered.

This event is free and open to the public. While there are no fees, pre-registration is advised.

Cross country teams

The Tamaqua Cross Country Boosters are calling all team alumni to participate in a picnic and 5K Fun Run on Aug. 18.

East End auxiliary

Supporters of the East End Fire Company are in the process of starting an auxiliary unit.

A planning session is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Aug. 11 at the fire company. For more information, call (570) 778-7407.

Calvary Methodist

During the summer months, all services and activities affiliated with Calvary Evangelical United Methodist Church in the Lewistown Valley will be held at the Lewistown Valley Tabernacle, 614 Valley Road, Tamaqua.

The Rev. Dr. Edward Bean will officiate at the 10:25 a.m. service this Sunday, with special music to be provided by accordionist Harry Ostrender of Souderton.

A time of praise, worship and Bible study will be held at 6:30 p.m. this Sunday.

The Jacobs Brothers will present a gospel concert, at the tabernacle, at 7 p.m. on Aug. 22.

The annual Tabernacle services will begin Aug. 23 and continue through Labor Day evening. Evening services will be held daily at 7 p.m. Special guests will be evangelists and song leaders, the Rev. Jeff and Jeanie Shelburne (daily); Austin Sullivan, missionary on Aug. 23; the Rev. George Holley, Aug. 26 through Aug. 30.

Special music will be presented by the Wehry Family on Sept. 1 and 2.

Bethany EC

The Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 8 a.m. traditional service this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. The contemporary service will be held at 11 a.m. at Knoeble's.

Also on Sunday, a worship service will be held at 2:30 p.m. at the Hometown Nursing Center.

Activities for next week will include twice daily sessions of painting the church exterior, at 8 a.m. and at 5:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday; Wednesday, Tamaqua Youth Ministry meets at 6:30 p.m.; Saturday, musician practice at 8:30 a.m., praise rehearsal at 9:30 a.m.

Zion Lewistown

The Rev. Jim Williams will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. service this Sunday in Zion Church in the Lewistown Valley. Sunday school will be held at 9:15 a.m.

St. John Lutheran

Jon Zizelmann and Karen Campomizzi will preside at the 9:15 a.m. worship service this Sunday in St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church.

The Learning Ministry will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 19. Deadline to register for Confirmation is Aug. 19.
