Cyclist killed in crash

Published August 12. 2013 05:04PM

A Lehigh County motorcyclist was killed in a crash in Carbon County on Saturday.

The crash occurred about 5:25 p.m. along SR248 westbound at Union Hill Road in Franklin Township.

Township Officer Frank Lorah identified the victim as Frederick J. Moyer III, 51, of Allentown. Moyer was taken to St. Luke's Hospital, Fountain Hill, after the crash but died several hours later.

Lorah said Moyer was westbound when a female driver from the Tamaqua area attempted to turn onto Union Hill Road, and a collision occurred.

Lorah, who declined to release the name of the female pending completion of his investigation, said she was trying to get through stopped traffic in that area.

Lorah has asked for a state police reconstruction team to assist in the probe.
