Final in summer concert series by Leh. Band on Aug. 11 and 15

Published August 08. 2013 05:03PM

The third and final concert of the summer season by the Lehighton Band will be presented in Eurana Park on Sunday, Aug. 11 at 7 p.m. and in the Lehighton Park on Thursday, Aug. 15 at 8 p.m.

Paul R. Smith, conductor of the band, announces a varied program featuring three soloists from within the band.

The concert will begin with Laurel Seemiller as soloist singing the Star Spangled Banner. Laurel appeared at last month's concert as part of a French Horn duet. This past school year, Laurel was selected to sing in the District 10 District Chorus, the Regional Chorus and was also picked to sing in the All-State Chorus.

The concert will continue with the march, "The Southerner" by Russell Alexander followed by a beautiful tone poem by Haydn Wood entitled "Mannin Veen."

Changing the pace will be John Cacavas' "Matador" after which Bradly Cressley will take the stage playing Mozart's "Concerto For Clarinet." Brad has soloed with the band on many occasions and this number is very demanding on both the soloist and the band.

From the movie of the same name, the band playes Elmer Bernstein's "The Magnificent Seven" followed by the soothing "A Study In Lavender" by Eric Osterling.

Joseph Plechavy, III is the next soloist singing the Rodgers and Hammerstein tune "If I Loved You" from the Broadway musical, "Carousel."

Also on the program is a medley called "Sinatra" arranged by Stephen Bulla and featuring hits made famous by Frank Sinatra. This number includes the selections "Come Fly With Me," "Witchcraft," "That's Life," and "Fly Me To The Moon."

The concert will close with another Alexander march, "Colossus Of Columbia."

The music for this concert is sponsored by donations from local businesses, professional people and music lovers from throughout the area.

The concert is free and open to the public.

In case of inclement weather, the Weatherly concert will be cancelled and the Lehighton concert will be held in the Boys and Girls Band Hall at Sixth and Cypress Sts. in Lehighton.
