Drivers charged after fatal crash

The drivers of two vehicles that were involved in a crash on March 24 on Route 61 in West Brunswick Township have been charged by state police at the Schuylkill Haven barracks.

Two girls, ages 3 and 6, from Minersville, died in the crash.The accident happened at the entrance to Faith Church, about three-quarters of a mile south of South Liberty Street.Charged as a result of the crash were Victoria Place, 27, of Minersville, and a 17-year-old boy from Schuylkill Haven. Place is charged with a summary count of vehicle entering or crossing a roadway while the 17-year-old was arrested for summary charges of careless driving/unintentional death, driving a vehicle at an unsafe speed and reckless driving.Police said the accident happened when Place was driving a vehicle that was exiting the parking lot of the church and the 17-year-old was operating a vehicle at a high rate of speed southbound on Rt. 61. Police said Place pulled into the roadway to travel north on Rt. 61 and hesitated, stopping in the right lane of Rt. 61 southbound, at which time the 17-year-old applied his brakes, swerved to the right and the front of his vehicle struck the driver's side door of Place's vehicle. Police said both vehicles traveled over 80 feet and came to rest facing east.The two drivers were injured in the crash.
