Tamaqua man facing DUI count

Published August 07. 2013 05:03PM

Thomas R. Zemanik, 51, of Tamaqua, was a very lucky man on July 22 after he passed out behind the wheel of his vehicle.

Rush Township police found Zemanik inside his vehicle at 7:08 p.m. on the berm of Taggertsville Road. He was unconscious, with his foot on the brake and the vehicle still in the driving gear. Efforts to wake Zemanik were unsuccessful and he was transported to Schuylkill Medical Center-S. Jackson Street, Pottsville.

At the hospital a blood test indicated he had a blood-alcohol content of .379 percent, more than four times the legal limit of .08.

He was admitted to the hospital for treatment and will be charged with driving under the influence (DUI) and other charges.
