PFBC, Cabela's team up for PA fishing contest
For a third year, the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission is partnering with Cabela's to promote family fishing with the "Fish for a Millions" contest, beginning Saturday, May 4. Pennsylvania is one of 22 states that is part of the national contest.
There is no entry fee, but to eligible to claim the prize that corresponds to fish that have been tagged by the PFBC, anglers must register on the Cabela's website at www.cabelas.com/fishformillions or the PFBC website at www.fishandboat.com/fishformillions.htm. Tags must be redeemed by Sunday, July 7, and prizes range from Cabela's gift cards to boats to the grand prize of $2 million.
All rules and contest details are also listed on both websites, and beginning May 4 the PFBC will post a listing of contest waters and photos of tagged fish.
As a "warm-up" to the May 4 contest start date, the PFBC will be have an exhibit at the Pennsylvania Cabela's store in Hamburg. PFBC staff will be present to provide free publications and educational materials, including the list of Pennsylvania contest waters, and Cabela's is providing its yardstick adhesive decal as a free giveaway during the event.
Free registration is underway for Schuylkill County Youth Field Day, Saturday, May 18, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Friedensburg Fish and Game, 169 Stone Mountain Road, Pine Grove. This hands-on, outdoors educational event includes lunch and is for youth between the ages of 10-15, who must be accompanied by an adult chaperones. Every Sunday during May and June, a free introductory course to fly fishing is being sponsored by the Federation of Fly Fishers at Cabela's Hamburg location. There are two sessions to the course, beginning at 12:30 p.m. with "Introduction to Fly Fishing" and concluding at 2:30 p.m. with "Introduction to Fly Casting," and participants must pre-register by calling the Cabela's Fly Shop at 610-929-7000.
A simulated hunting 3D course is open daily through Oct. 12 from dawn to dusk at Bears Head Archery, Delano, off I-81 exit 134. Sundays, the course is closed from 1-4 p.m. for trap. For information, email firstname.lastname@example.org.
