Carbon County commissioners on Thursday proclaimed May 4 as Carbon County Safe Kids Day. On that day, an event hosted by state Sen. John Yudichak will be held beginning at 10 a.m. at Mauch Chunk Lake Park, along Lentz Trail. The day will be filled with fun, games, and learning. There will be simulated rescue demonstrations, food, giveaways and information. The event will be held rain or shine.

Celebrating the proclamation are, seated, from left: Evalynn Kuehner of the Carbon County chapter of Safe Kids; Bill Richards of Sen. Yudichak's office; and MaryLou McGeehan, community education coordinator for Blue Mountain Health System. Not included in the photo is Carbon County Safe Kids Chairperson Mindy Graver.

Standing are county Commissioner Thomas J. Gerhard, Commissioners Chairman Wayne Nothstein, and Commissioner William O'Gurek.
