A Schuylkill County driver is facing a charge of driving under the influence (DUI) following a one vehicle crash that occurred about 11 p.m. on Wednesday, April 24, along SR209, just north of Dowdentown Road, in Branch Township.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said Michael Grustas, 34, of Minersville, was driving a 2002 Ford Ranger pickup truck southbound when, for unknown reasons, he lost control of the truck. The truck went onto the west berm and struck a pile of landscape rocks as well as a stone wall. After impact the truck continued several feet south on 209 before coming to final rest in the southbound lane.

Grustas then fled the scene on foot but was located several minutes later by Minersville police. He was found to be under the influence but refused to submit to field sobriety tests.

He was then transported to the Schuylkill Medical Center-S. Jackson St., Pottsville, where he submitted to a blood test. The DUI charge is pending blood test results, troopers said.

The vehicle had to be towed from the scene.
