Golden Agers

Plans for the annual picnic to be held on Monday, Aug. 12 are under way and the No. 9 Mine as well as the caterers at the Fireline Hotel have been contacted.

Estelle Searches, who recently observed her 95th birthday, was recognized in a letter from the Women's War Memorial in Washington D.C. for her four-plus years of service as an Army nurse in World War II.

The next meeting will be held Monday, April 22 at St. John's Slovak Lutheran Church Social Hall beginning at 1 p.m.

Members celebrating birthdays in January, February, March and April will be honored.

Choir members are asked to report at 11 a.m. to practice for the annual Memorial Mass on May 13.


VFW Ladies Auxiliary

A Miller Bloodmobile collection was held March 13 with the next collection to be held in mid-May.

The Annual Loyalty Day Program will take place at 6 p.m., Wednesday, May 1. The Voice of Democracy awards will also be presented at that time. The public is invited to attend.

The District 20 Convention will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, May 19 in Northampton. Elected delegates are: Ellen Driesbach, Maureen Hirochek, Mary Arieta, Beatrice Stianchie and Anne Paulakovich. Alternates are: Tillie Lakata, Missy Hascher, Ann Adams, Carol Malatak and Cheri Santore.

Nomination and election of officers for 2013-2014 were held. The following were elected to the respective offices:

President, Ellen Driesbach; senior vice-president, Amanda Breiner; junior vice-president, Tillie Lakata; treasurer, Maureen Hirochek; chaplain, Beatrice Stianchie; conductress, Anne Paulakovich; guard, Ann Adams; and three-year trustee, Mary Arieta.

Appointed offices will be announced by the president-elect at the next meeting which will be held on Tuesday, May 14 at 6:30 p.m. at the Post Home.


St. John Lutheran

Tonight at 7 p.m., St. John's Lutheran Church, 1 E. Abbott St., Lansford, will hold an informal worship. This will be a spiritual, peaceful, evening service with Holy Communion. All are welcome to this relaxed, brief, musical, evening prayer. For those who wish to come early, a free simple supper is served at 6 p.m., followed by a brief adult Bible study at 6:30.
