CYO Spelling Bee held in Tamaqua

The District Five CYO Spelling Bee was held at St. Jerome Regional School, Tamaqua, on April 7. Participating schools included St. Jerome's, McAdoo Catholic, SS. Peter and Paul of Lehighton, St. Joseph Regional Academy of Jim Thorpe and Our Lady of Angels Academy of Lansford. Contests were held for students in second, third, fourth and fifth grades.

Second grade winners were: Samantha Descallar of SS. Peter and Paul, first place; Blaise Mulen of McAdoo Catholic, second place; and Emma Morgans, St. Jerome's, third place.

Third grade winners were: Benjamin Slaw, SS. Peter and Paul, first place; Matthew Rehrig of Our Lady of Angels, second place; and Rhiannon Dempsey of St. Joseph's, third place.

Winners representing the fourth grade were: Tatiana Zeleniak, Our Lady of Angels, first place; Stephen Puza, OLOAA, second place; and Sammy Sterns, St. Jerome's, third place.

Top spellers in fifth grade were: Katherine Aaron, SS. Peter and Paul, first place; Elizabeth Kelshaw, St. Jerome's, second place; and Emily Reaman, St. Joseph's, third place.
