Lehighton Area Middle School recently accepted a donation for its environmental center.

Sue Anthony, secretary of the Lehighton Area Lioness Lions Club, along with Rich Anthony, club member; and Steven Anthony, incoming club vice president, presented the powder coated aluminum bench and chair to Joe Yescavage, seventh grade science teacher and environmental center coordinator; and Michael DeAngelo, assistant principal.

The bench and chair will be used in the school environmental center said Yescavage.

"We are thrilled with the donation," said Yescavage. "It is perfect. It will last a long time."

Yescavage said that the students often take them lunches into the environmental center.

Yescavage said the environmental center has numerous trees, a pond, a patio, holly bushes, maple trees and arborvitae. He said the pond has at least 30 koi fish in it.

"The kids absolutely love coming to the environmental center."

Anthony said that the Lions International President put out a challenge to clubs to do a reading program and environmental program to get a Club Excellence Award.

"With the donation of these items, we have met our goal," she said. "Lowes was instrumental in helping us by giving us a good price and assembling the furniture."
