Standing in the rain for three hours Thursday, Lansford Fire Police Captain Michael Knies, 90, a 42-year volunteer with the Lansford Fire Company/Fire Police, directs traffic around the first block of East Patterson Street while police respond to a man threatening to jump off the roof of a downtown building. Later that night, fire police volunteers were called to the same block for a structure fire. That incident was later determined to only be a malfunctioning oil burner.
