St. Jerome grad among 'Distinguished Alumni'

The late Michael Casino, a graduate of the former St. Jerome High School class of 1927, is to be honored posthumously by Marian High School and the Diocese of Allentown with the Distinguished Catholic Alumni Award.

Diocese of Allentown Bishop John O. Barres will present a graduate from each of the seven Catholic high schools in the Diocese with this award on Saturday, April 20 at 10 a.m. at Alvernia University in Reading. The awards will be presented at the annual Bishop's Scholar Society Awards ceremony at which scholarships are being presented to 154 students from the Diocese's elementary schools, high schools and special learning centers.The Distinguished Catholic Alumni Awards are being presented for the first time to recognize alumni, chosen by the schools, who have achieved outstanding success in their fields, are practicing Catholics, and are role models for today's student scholars.In addition to Casino, the remaining honorees are: William Scharle, Allentown Central High School class of 1946; Alice Finn Freeh, Bethlehem Catholic High School class of 1970; John R. Post, former Reading Central Catholic High School class of 1956, being honored by Berks Catholic High school; Mildred Fanelli Scarbinsky, Nativity BVM High School class of 1967; Monsignor Alfred A. Schlert, Notre Dame High School class of 1979; and David J. Ceraul, Pius X High School class of 1973.
