Monroe man jailed for violating PFA

Published April 16. 2013 05:02PM

A Monroe County man was jailed for violating a protection from abuse (PFA) order.

State police at Fern Ridge said Joseph B. Shevlin, of Effort, arrived at the home of his ex-girlfriend, Gerrilynne Smith, 772 Toll Rd., Effort, in Chestnuthill Township, about 6:40 p.m. on April 8. Upon arrival he encountered Smith outside the residence and engaged her in unwanted conversation.

Troopers said Smith had her son call troopers since the PFA prohibited Shevlin from having any type of contact with her. Shevlin was highly intoxicated at the time, troopers noted.

He was placed under arrest and housed in the county prison in Snydersville, troopers added.
