A bomb threat yesterday shut down the Carbon County Courthouse and neighboring annex for half the day yesterday, and forced the detouring of heavy Route 209 traffic for several hours.

The incident happened at about 11:45 a.m.

The courthouse was searched by police officers, bomb squad members, bomb sniffing dogs, and members of the Carbon County Emergency Management Agency.

The threat reportedly was called into local officials via telephone.

It was serious enough that the courthouse was immediately evacuated and traffic was shut down on Route 209, which runs past the courthouse.

Fire police and regular police officers closed off traffic on Route 209 in Packerton, detouring traffic over Flagstaff Mountain; on Broadway at the intersection with Flagstaff Road, and on the west end of the Route 903 bridge.

Jim Thorpe police said they are looking into several leads regarding the bomb scare.
